I agree. I've personally haven't had the SAME vehicle this long before . Purchased her new in 1998. Easy motor to work on!! -VERY easy.

She just keeps running/working and doesn't ask for much. The modular motor is a rock, -very dependable!!! 300,000 miles is coming up fast.

BTW, Zephyr- That Heli -coil repair WILL blow out inside of two years, -most likley the sooner than the later lol . You DON'T use those kits in these heads. They will not work, I promise you.

I know from reading here over the years that you know your stuff. I have seen a lot of other posts about NOT using Helio-coil as well. I must be very lucky, I put a helio-coil in probably 6-7 years ago when the truck had 92K on the clock. It now has 248K on it and has had the plugs changed as well. That same helio-coil is in #3. It cost $14 for the kit, and the kit had 2 in it. Still have the backup, but I'm not expecting to need it.

I'm not doubting you, but I've had good luck with helio-coil.

We recommend Time-Sert. Those are known to work well.

Well, even though it is recommended that I dont get a older truck, I've always been yearning for one as long as I can remember. If worse come to worse, I still have the 05 350 to tow anything.

Exactly, while this will not be my daily driver, its a project. I intended to use the 98 as my daily driver, but it seems my best bet is to buy a little fuel friendly car. I just need to clean out my shop first. Joy.

Thanks for the help, the truck run great now, but I'm just wanting something dirtier with less electronic components.

Thats not true at all. I helicoiled the #4 in my '99 5.4 back in 2009. It's 2013 and I have replaced the plugs twice, and never had a problem since. Guess it just depends on the wrench turner.

Uhmmm Nooo... I'll tell yuh right now, - something isn't right :

So who installed it anyway ? 4 years is definitely a first and a new record. No way, not a Heli-coil. Max is two years and I 'll take product over a wrench turner. There's more value in a Time sert install. It's in there for good. If you do have a Heli-coil, it's on borrowed time. I'm serious your the first and that is a record, you have beaten the odds. Should incorporate that in your sig. Maybe not, you'll have a hard time sellin that one lol.

Heli-coils don't work very well. There is a better method. Plenty of people on this forum can give you more details.
