I want to take an airbag pump from a Towncar or something, attatch it to a tank, and make an air compressor out of the back of my truck.
This sytem will power one hose(for airing up tires and air tools, everything required to change a flat on the road. Also it will branch off to air horns. Yes the big boy ones as seen on a big rig.
I am not sure if I want the compressor in the crowded engine bay, or off to the side inside a rear cargo compartment. The tank will probably be in the rear or maybe under the rearmost where the spare would be.
Whats ya thoughts????

If you are talking about the compressor mounted at the front wheel well of the Continental/Town Car might I suggest that you not use that unit. Odd I had just thrown out the old compressor from a Continental last Wednesday.
The issue with the pump is the air delivery capacity of that unit compared with a higher capacity pump. There are a supply of 12Volt air compressors on the market that you could use. The Linc/Mercury compressor has a thermal shut-down circuit internally, and would probably open if you tried to inflate one standard tire if possible. I think that the unit would probably shut off if it is run for more than 45 sec. to 1 minute.
Additionally you would probably need a compressor that could provide 100 Lbs./in @ 60 to 100 Cu.Ft./min to make your system practical. The Lincoln pump would need to run for hours.
When I had my old 1986 Bronco I did make a system like you describe and mounted it with a 13 Gal. tank under the truck for such use.

I know a guy who has an old landcruiser rock crawler. He has tubular bumpers he uses for air tanks and an old chevy AC compressor for the air pump. Says it works good.

hope its strong...cant imagine it getting hit by someone or getting hit off road and blowing up...seems that a bumper is supposed to be hit so it doesnt seem like a practical place for me...but definetly custom and you dont have any tanks taking up space...
common practice, the fellas running a rollcage are known to fill their cages with air. its not unsafe by any mean to get excited over. max psi is more than likely going to be 120 range, consider most peoples compressor capability. oh no, i punctured my air tank, psst hey whered it all go so fast?
what do yall think about those ^^horn blaster kits? are they really that good...seems the prices are reasonable but i want to make sure what im getting is good...plus they call these "train horns" i would rather have more of the "big rig" sound on my truck...where could i buy horns like that? or are they all the same?
If you google "train horn" you will find a wealth of horns and companies that carry just what your looking for. As for the link above, I am not sure if they are the exact same horns I have heard, but, they look similar. Loud as heck!

im tryin to decide what i want to do...i want to get a tank and compressor that i would be able to use on the trail for tires and such...but i also want to have train horns...is it easy to make these "dual purpouse"? now i gotta decide what comes first on my list of things i want...train horns, body lift, axle, new bumpers...the list goes on and on. haha
