high miles

Ok here's my question, I bought a 2000 f-150 with 150,000 recently. I want to drive it home to texas about 1300 miles one way trip. What would yall do as precautions to feel comfortable to make the round trip. I have know idea what the dealership did to vehicle or prior owner. Right now the truck runs fine idles great at 600 rpm when stopped. No other visable or wierd noises. Should I take it to nearest ford and have them look at it?

I would make sure the basic maintenence was done. Oil changed Transmission serviced new air and fuel filters. You should do that anyway. 1300 miles isnt that far. You'll be fine.

Perform your basic maitenance. Oil Change, fuel filter, air filter, check all fluids etc. No need to take it to a dealer unless you don't have the mechanical ability or tools to perform the maitenance. Please don't take that last statement the wrong way. Alot of people do not work on vehicles. I would check the front end to make sure it's greased up, tight and aligned.
Check the brakes out and fluid level. Check for any leaks from front to back.
If you perform the maitenance and check everything out, you will be fine.

Somethings wrong with it. 600 rpms isn't good, I wouldn't . Idle isn't adjustable so there's a problem.

These engines idle around 750 rpms.

I would give it a good once over and if it looks good, just drive it. When you get there, you can take your time and do everything that needs to be done to it.

Yea , could be as simple as cleaning the MAF and rebooting. Is it a 5four or 4six ? 5fours truly aren't broke in until you reach 200,000 miles.

jbrews right, 600 rpm's is not good unless he meant in drive, 750 in park/neutral. I wouldn't worry, 1300 miles is decent, but not bad. If it has had a good safety, check the fluids and enjoy.

yeah 600 rpms when in drive with foot on brake is normal i believe. the truck will be fine, just check it over like said above

Change the oil and filter check the air filter and all the other fluids and check the air presure in the tires. A good long highway run will be good for the truck and have fun.

A dirty air filter WILL cause a low idle as well

Well, if you can make it down to the corner stop sign and back you should be good to go
