2005 Explorer won't start
 

My wife called me from work today her truck wouldn't start. She has a 05 Eddie Baur V8 4x4. I try to start it and nothing not even a click. All of her inside accessories work. I went and bought a new battery and installed it, still nothing. I checked all the fuses I could and they all look good. I crossed the selonoid with a screwdriver and the starter begin to turn. So now I am thinking bad selonoid, what do you guys think? I hate buying part after part trying to fix something.

Read through the thread (above) I started yesterday, it sounds like the same problem I had. There is a few things you can check for before putting a new starter and/or solenoid in. Personaly, I would not just replace the solenoid.

You can also read some of the threads that were recently started this week concerning your same problem. Seems like the season for this problem lately.
Someone on here has your same problem and Jbrew posted some excellent pic's to point that guy in the right direction.

I just found a broken wire on the solenoid. It is the wire from the ignition. Do you guys recommend just to crimp on a new end or should I go buy soldering iron and solder one on? Has anyone ever heard of a wire just breaking? It broke right at the end where meets the solenoid.

I crimped and solderd a new end on, then shrunk wrapped it. Good as new. I think the wire might of been over torqued from the factory. I just can't understand how a wire can break on the end like that. Thanks for all the help.

You would be surprised what vibration will do. I agree with you that the wire was probably stressed in that area right from the factory. Not knowing where you live, here in NY with the nasty winters we have, road salt would have done in that wire a bit quicker. Soldering the wire was a good idea over crimping for sure.
