annoying chirping in my 02 f 150 w/4.2 v6

hello and welcome me. my 02 ford has begun to give me some headaches of late. there is a certain chirping sound coming from the engine. now my first response was to remove the belt, examine it, and also examine the pulleys/accesories that it was attached to. i thought it may have been a bad bearing somewhere. this was not so as i ran the engine w/o the belt, the chirp was still there. i am running out of excuses for checking my engine everyday now. am i overlooking something obvious? it has 97k on it and it doesn't leak anything. engine performance is still very good. please help if you can. -driverdjm

Does the sound match when you rev the engine or accelerate (increase in frequency or get louder) or is it constant all the time?

yes, it does increase in intensity when i accelerate. the noise definitely sounds like it comes from the engine rather than the transmission, though.
