Questions about a 4.6 to a 5.4 swap in a 1998 f-150
HI All,
I have a 1998 4X4 F150 EXT cab auto with a 4.6 4.56 gears in a 9.75 6" lift and 35" tires. I would like to know what all I would have to change to put a 5.4 in it and have it work correctly. Is there a year range for the 5.4 to stay away from or one that would work better?
I use this truck to pull an open car trailer (1200 LBS) with a mustang (3400LBS) on it, as well as a boat. Some of the racing/fishing trips are 200 too 500 miles so this has got to run good and be very reliable!
The truck has 141,000 miles on it and is pretty slugish on the highway when pulling something.I HATE payments so seling this truck and buying a new one is not going to happen.
This is not some kind of BS budget build where I see how cheap I can do it. I'm not going to wast money but I just want this to be as perfect as it can be. Any information you would like to share would be great, I tried a search first but had no luck.
Thank You All For The Help

Not to be mean, but , there are numerous threads on here about this subject. try the search function again and see what comes up.
Not a hard swap at all. a little exhaust work, new tune, a couple wires maybe, and moving a sensor. very little extra work over a stock install for someone with a little ability. i did this swap, thats how i know
