NEED Help major engine shutter-Don't know
Hello All!
Don't do much posting usually figure any issues out while reading but have not found any posts on this. Hear is my issue I have a 2006 FX4 8" lift, 4:56 gears, Airaid, banks exhaust and Edge programmer. about a moth ago I got a really bad shutter while driving around a constant speed of 80-90MPH (highway driving) ssems to happen when the truck us under a load like going up a hill or slight incline. The truck feels like it is hitting the rev limiter or when you have a stick shift being in 5th when you should be in 2nd. When driving at lower speeds there is nothing except a sputter noise coming from the exhaust when I slow down. took it to the dealership and they said because there is no check engine light they can not do anything. Well I finally got the check engine light to come on code was #6 spark plug misfiring this was due to it being gunked up? so the dealership changed the plug and have a nice day. still does the same thing but now seems to be getting worse and now does the shuttering at lower speeds and I can get it to happen when downshifting to second. I have put a new fuel filter in it, flushed the injectors and still does the same thing. I can not get it to throw a code and the dealership will not do anything till a code is thrown. oh also there sometimes seem to be black smoke coming out of my exhaust when I floor it. HELP! Eric |
One easy thing would be to put the factory intake back on and see if that makes a difference. If you are running Edge's canned tune, it is programmed for the stock intake.
Next I would suspect either a COP or an injector. Sounds as if it's flooding, to me. |
I have since taken off my programmer and am running stock. When I use my programmer it gets twice as bad but you know I can not bring it to the dealership with the programmer on it. I have a feeling it has something the do with fuel and or a coil. i am very courious why the dealership said that #6 plug was clogged up but did not check the rest of the plugs.

I would be very hesitant about driving it. If it is an injector flooding the cylinder, it can hydrolock the engine. Surely they checked the injector on 6.

Oh no they only changed the spark plug. I have a major Family vaction coming up where I will be going up north and will be pulling my toy hauler and have been working on this so I don't have issues during the trip. The dealership wants me to continue driving it until I can throw a code. That is there only solution at this time.

Well, that has to be frustrating! Any other dealer in the area?
Mine did something like that when it was new, 1600 miles. It did throw a code and they replaced the throttle body. Never another problem. |
I have taken it to another dealer and because a ticket or issue was registered with a different dealership while still under the 36K warrenty the second dealership will not touch it. i have an independent guy that use to work for Ford that is willing to look at it but how do I get the money spent on this guy when it turns out to be a bad part or issue from FORD?

You're in a pickle. I understand the frustration. I don't think there is any way to get reimbursed for a non Ford mechanic looking at it. Maybe you need to dog it and try to get it to throw a code. That is just ridiculous that they can't troubleshoot. I'm sorry for what you are going through.

Thanks and yes this is very frustrating especially since i really have not done anything out of the ordinary. everything on the truck was done at the dealership. I was told by Ford to do just that put it under a load till it throws a code. Here is the real funny thing I took my service writer for a drive and he too felt the issue but can not do anthing. He suggested they could place a black box on it to record when the issue happens but he wants me to calibrate the speedo first. Well that will cost $160 just to do that I feel like putting my EDGE back in and just running it stock so I can calibrate the tires but i am at a catch 22 here with doing that.
Thanks for the suggestions and i will let you know what happens.... maybe i just trade it in for a new F250 and let them worry about it when someone else brings it in. |
Replace the #6 COP.

So let me ask you this, how would only 1 plug get clogged up or have crap on it? if there is an issue with buring fuel or additive wouln't the others be the same way too?
