PI head swap

How hard is it to do a PI head swap on a 97 F150 5.4. I found the heads, intake timing cover valve covers, head bolts. Is there anything else i need to do the swap, are the plugs or injectors or anything else different?

same injectors, you need a tune for it.

This thread is talking about the 4.6 but the info is about the same:

what kind of tune do i need? I already have a hypertech, but im thinking of getting a custom tune done.

All I ever keep seeing in these posts from people wondering about working the 4.6's ends up being "go with a 5.4." Has ANYBODY done a 4.6? I read the thread about the PI/Non-PI head swap, and learned little to nothing. Will all the accessory brackets interchange? how about headers--with the non-pi being round and the pi being square? With the PI heads producing higher compression, what about just swapping in a newer 4.6 motor already setup with the PI, like one from a 2001 on up?

Would a person be able to use the newer motor and just transfer the throttle body, timing, oil pan, injectors, etc from their older motor onto the newer one with a tune?

Would that work? More to the point, would that work easily?

Depends what they are doing -
'Working on" is a broad catagory, you need to be more specific.

PI/Non PI heads are Identical on the exhaust port side.

They produce more power on non PI blocks ONLY. A PI set up /OEM from the factory doesn't have the same Pistons OR Compresion. Look at the specs and you'll see what I mean.

I'm prolly off here, but not by much. The dfference between a 'Factory" PI 4six vrs NonPi = around 11 hp.

A head swap -Pi on NonPI Block = 30- 60 hp when combined and tuned - Has to be tuned on the Dyno Period - Or I should say , that's what you'll want to do or everthing thus far will be wasted.

What years ?

Just use the search bar. Also , start your own thread - Stealing others isn't to cool.
