charging System Q&A's
99 F150 4.6 lit.
Problem Car died while driving, battery was dead. Alternator tested bad. battery was out dated. Fix Replaced Alternator with brand new one, replaced battery with brand new one. Truck still does not run when battery cables are not connected. My truck ran the battery dead. The alternator tested good. battery is good, but still no charge. Ive checked conections. Thier good. What else do I need to change or check, Im confused. Im a little new at this. thanks |
Where'd you get the alternator from?

How many volts is the alternator putting out? Either you got a bad alternator, you fried the alternator by installing it incorrectly, or the wiring is bad and the charge isn't making it back into the battery. Buy yourself a multimeter to check your charging system. Disconnecting the battery with the engine running isn't good for your electronics.

Oh, one last thing...isn't there a fuse in the charging system on these trucks? I'm overseas and can't see mine right now, but I think maybe there is.

could it be the cylinoid? would that stop it from getting a charge.

new battery slowing dying
new batt. fully charged (1275 on hydrometer) 1 month later, (1250)
disconnected batt. charged for 2 hrs. (1250) this is the 3rd battery in 8 months. checked for ground with batt. disconnected. ohm meter reads ground in milli ohms and you can watch the resistance click down to zero. wait a minute, do it again and the same thing happens. pulled the 3 wire plug from the alternator and the ground cleared. Read the ohms off the plug wires, g/r wire .720 milli ohms, bk/w and y wires read zero ohms. Readings off the alternator socket reads g/r 1.49 k-ohms, bk/w 1.00-k ohms and the y 50-k ohms Where do I go from here?????????? |
