No way you got ripped off. You can't hardly buy a old rusty beater for less than 2 grand any more.

body looks to be in reasonable shape. I've seen 92's with that many miles going for $1500.

hmmmm.... maybe

$1900 of a full size truck of *any* year is a decent deal... if it runs

The bottom line is that you don't know the service history, so you gotta expect the worst, and go with what you can figure out.

You already know it needs a tune up and A/C work.... and with the motor at 209k, I would worry about the tranny.

So, you should propably do the following:

Don't worry about the A/C for now .... bring it in for a complete tune-up... BUT BEFORE the tune up, have the techs perform a compression test on the motor.

That will give you a really good idea of how worn the motor is .... at 209k miles, unless the owner took REALLY good care of the motor (3k oil changes, regular coolant flushes, etc), it is likely that you are looking at some cylinder/ring/valve wear.

If the results are 'reasonable' (ie no weak holes), then you can proceed with the tune.

Also, have them drop the pan on the tranny and look for bad stuff (metal shavings and/or excessive friction materials). Have the tranny fluid changed in the process.

With any luck, you found a well taken care of truck... if not, sell it or be prepared to invest some $$$. 209k is nothing to sneeze at.

All that being said, a bazillion years ago I purchased a 1980 datsun king cab pickup with 174k miles on it. It ran like crap and smelled like a goat inside, but I got it for $1000.

With some TLC and sleuthing, I found that the carb bowl was fouled, the jets were fouled, the fuel pump was fouled, etc... bad gas, sugar, something got to it...

So i pulled the carb and pump, cleaned everything up, put new fuel lines on it.... flushed the fuel tank.... total investment... $50 and a few hours of work.

I spent the next 7 years driving that car.... between phoenix and los angeles and eventually junked it at 275k miles.... after the front suspension gave out in spectacular fashion.

The only 'major' things i had to do in that time was a new alternator and clutch..... 19mpg, reliable, strong.... never burned a drop of oil.

Bottom line.... sometimes you find a winner

If your wife smells like a goat, get rid of her.

i'd say you stole that truck. you could look up the value of it on kelly blue book but they are just a little high or low depending on vehicle. but my 93 f150 5.0 4x4 auto has 263000 miles on it and kbb value was around $2600-$3500. mines in good shape.
