Clicking noise when in Idle

I recently had a 10k oil check/inspection at a local Ford dealership for my '07, but this morning when I cold-started my 5.4LV8 engine it made a clicking noise that goes away after 2 minutes or if I rev the engine.

Any ideas? I called the dealership but they couldn't look at it anytime soon and were unable to offer phone advice. No Check Engine light or other abnormal performance noted. Appreciate any suggestions! jim

Man, mine's been doing that for 90,000 friggin' miles. No idea what it is.

My guess is its your a/c compressor cycling on..

either that or engine knock. Try running 93octane in it for about a week an see if that helps. Also could be carbon build up, try running a product called "seafoam" threw your brake booster line (or anything that directly feeds all cylinders)

I've cycled the A/C and noticed no changes to the clicking/knocking sound... not sure if that's even an acceptable trouble-shooting technique to narrow it down to a compressor fault...

Maybe I should just turn the radio up and drown it out.

pop the hood. watch the compressor. if the click happens the same time the compressor cycles on its the compressor. It can cycle on even when its turned off. You can see the clutch engage.

Today it got worse. I actually used the A/C and after a 30 min drive it started that familiar 'click' when I came to a stop but with an even greater pace. I then popped the hood to get a look, but as I got out there was a loud 'ssssssisssss' noise and what looked like steam.

So Monday I will be dropping it off at the Ford shop (still under warranty).

I'll let you know what it turns out to be!
