07 Trition 5.4 with 9,000miles dead!?!

So... My 07 F150 supercrew is having the motor replaced!?! (Under warranty thank god.) 5.4 triton V-8 with only 9,000 miles on it. I only talked briefly with the service department and don't know all the details but they said the cause is oil starvation upon startup... I did a search on the net for related incidents but haven't seen anything. No TSP's either from what I could find. Has anyone heard about this before? I guess they have a bad batch of motors.... Thanks in advance....

wow 9000 mi i think you might be able to chalk that up to unlucky lottery

Aint that something :smoke:

Glad you got warranty on it. Did you check the oil recently?

That's a fluke. No , I haven't heard of this before - IF that is indeed what happened. You can search the 2004 -present forums on this site, if you like. You might find something in there.

What was going on with it before you brought it in?

There's a handful of '06-'07 5.4 3Vs out there with incorrectly machined crank thrust bearings. Causes low oil pressure, misfires (as the crank walks back and forth in the block), engine noise, all that kinda fun stuff.

Chemicalfx 05-01-2008 05:42 PM

Found out that is exactly it! The thrust bearing. A 5 dollar part cost them a whole new motor. The worst part of it all is. They are probably not gonna recall those motors. If yours goes out after your warranty is up. Your screwed. I'm wondering if there is a way to find out what batch of motors it is that has this faulty/poor quality thrust bearing. So people on here will know before its too late....

It just suddenly went out. I started it up drove 2 blocks then it just started running rough. Turned around and brought it home. I had it towed to the dealer. Made no difference, its a complete loss anyways... I had a ton of OBD codes.. Crank positions sensor.... Cam position sensor... Alot of powertrain codes.... No signs before that. It ran great.

So... With my luck,I should go play the lottery.....

When I say "handful," I mean a handful. A couple-three hundred units or so. Not enough for Ford to lose sleep over or to recall.

Hey, what month was your truck assembled?

I don't think the assembly date is what matters - it would be the engine build date.

Hey Quintin, what milage are most of these motors failing at?
Thanks

I've heard as little as a few hundred miles to 20-25K miles.

Shane1 05-02-2008 05:16 PM

Thanks!
Any early signs we can keep an eye out for?

Quintin 05-02-2008 08:19 PM

A lower end knock, random misfire codes, stalling, stuff like that.

IDAHO-F150x2 05-03-2008 01:08 AM

thought I was going crazy...Sometimes hard starting, low oil pressure readout and funky engine sounds...
