Spark Plug part nums '99 4.6 w/plug wires

Howdy,

I just bought spark plugs for my 1999 f150 4x4. Engine is a 4.6 and it has individual plug wires.

In the owners manual, there is a chart of Motorcraft part numbers for this truck.

Spark plug part number is AWSF32PP .

I called Ford, Ford says new Motorcraft plug is an AGSF32FM .

$8.50 or so each from the Ford dealer.

I stopped by O'reilly Auto Parts, they lookup the plugs and get a Motorcraft plug with part number SP-432 . O'Reilly's price for these is $2.99 . The counterman walks back and gets the plugs. The little box has both the SP-432 and the AGSF32FM number on it. I take out the plug, and the number on the plug itself is AGSF32FM .

I bought 8 for about $26 out the door.

I just thought someone might want to know.

Well to save you a install, these trucks REQUIRE double platnium plugs, if you noticed the plugs(if the ones removed were original) had two diff. part #'s. If you didn't get the newer $8.50 a pop double platniums, then in about 500 miles(if your lucky) you will get misfires and the plugs will be burnt up. IF you somehow got the DP's for regular copper prices then you are very lucky, but I would check very closely and see.

Joshmac4.6,

I said the same thing you just did to the Ford parts guy when I first called, and he said the AWSF32PP (double plat) has been replaced with the AGSF32FM, which is NOT a double platinum plug. Motorcraft FM suffix is platinum fine wire center electrode, nickel plated shell.

http://info.rockauto.com/Motorcraft/sparkPlugs.htm

I put in new plugs about 3-4 years ago, and they were double platinum plugs, that was before the AGSF32FM's were out.

Thanks for the advice.

Well ok then, I'm a Ford tech and still use the DP's, don't know how anything but them will run in the wastespark system, use the fine wire in all COP applications but never any wastespark, well good luck, let me know how they turn out.
