blown plug
I was driving through a neighborhood and noticed an older guy working on an 02 f150 so i pulled over to see what he was doing. He said he had an air leak in engine and he was trying to install a new plug and coil. He stated that he could not get the coil tight enough to hold the plug in. So I mentioned to him that the plug needed to be threaded into hole like a plug on a lawnmower, motorcycle, etc. He said that all he had ever worked on were chevys and wasn't sure about installing a plug on his ford that he just purchased a week earlier. He thought the coil was suppose to hold the plug in!!!
I asked to look at the old plug and it was attached to the coil with some alum on threads left from head after getting blown out of engine. I told him to call his dealer and have a tow truck sent over because the head needed an insert installed. I think he said truck had about 120,000 so I wonder if the dealer new there was a problem with the engine.
I bought my son a used '01 4x4 and we changed the plugs this past summer and we found two plugs just finger tight. Truck had about 70K miles on it.
