EFG's MAP extended warranty?
 

has anyone heard of this one? we have to decide by 5pm when we pick up the vehicle whether to add it. The cost is $1020. w/100 ded. Husband is reading the coverage now. It will cover another 50k miles on an 03 screw.

are there other ext warranties aftermarket that are better/reasonable cost?

That's an extended warranty that works like an insurance policy. It's a crapshoot.

When I bought my '94 Mustang from dealership (the car was part of "The Plan" program), I had a one time opportunity to buy extended warranty even though the actual Ford warranty had expired. Had something to do with the fact that Ford Canada or more specifically Ford Canada Credit were the only prior "owners" of the vehicle. However it worked out I went for the warranty...whatever the most comprehensive bumper to bumper coverage they offered...and a $50 deductible. In '98, just one year into the warranty both head gaskets blew. I would have been out of pocket roughly $1400 or $1500. As it worked out I just had to cough up the $50. A year or so later I even recouped the $50 when Ford came good for a recall or something similar on 3.8L motors in Windstars and extended that.

I felt the money upfront was worth it for piece of mind. You may never need it, and if you don't then it's money poorly spent...but when you do need it...it sure seems like a wise decision.

Not all aftermarket warranties ar the same though..I've heard horror stories about Lubrico or some other such company...

thx for your experience. i went to EFG's website and they don't mention the product plans that the brochure lists, and there is no time frame on the quote he gave us. It could take us 4 yrs to drive 50K more miles, because we live in a small town/retired.

without any referrals on the company and the brochure not jiving with the companies website, I think we'll have to pass and look for another aftermarket warranty company that is highly recommended...if any.

one thing in the fine print that my husband didn't like was "on used cars if the breakdown is caused by a normal wear item, they don't cover it". (paraphrased)

in fine print jargon that could mean nothing or everything :confused:
