Problem starting engine, doesn't turn !!!
I left my truck (F150, 1999) last night at the garage after riding around 60 miles from work without any problem. The next morning when I started it tried to turn the engine and suddenly the engine did a "clonk" sound, and stopped to turn before starting. I tried again and it seems like all the power was gone, all meters (tach, speed , fuel, temp...) at the dashboard moves their needles from one side to the other. Them the electric power was gone.
I took out the key and tried again, it did the same. When I tried to start it, the engine started to turn (one second movement) and it "clonks" stopped. I leave the key at the start position and it tried two times with the same results. Afterthat I touched the battery cables and there were very hot. What could be the problem? A defective starter? I don't want to think the engine is locked !!! :help: |
If your gauges all do a full sweep that means your battery died or was disconnected. You have either a bad battery or a starting system malfunction pulling it down too low. Try jumping first.

sounds like a electrical problem. check battery connections, wiring etc... like norm said give it a jump.

Yea , how old is tha battery anyway?

problem
The battery has around 4 or 5 years, I guess.
My truck is a 1999 with 156K miles. this is the first battery I bought after the factory one. :fyi: Thanks for response |
4-5 years out of a battery isnt bad. ive had batterys 2 years old die on me. i mean dead beyond jumpstarting.

It sounds to me like you have a bad battery connection.it has been my experience that any where you have a hot spot on the cables like you mentioned.that is where th problem is.trying removing both battery cables and cleaning them...
