2005 F150 Engine Swap - Gas to Diesel

Hows it going everybody, I have a 2005 f150 fx4 and have been pondering the idea of trying to put a 6.0L or 7.3L powerstroke in it. This is just an idea and i was wondering if anyone has done this before and what kinda troubles they ran into. Any feedback will be greatly appriciated. Thanks Jeff

wont fit.. not enough room. ur better off gettin a TDI out of like an isuzu cab over or a ford cab over the 4.4L which is eventually going into the trucks.

Not even close to enough room in there on an F-150 - and that's just for the engine. Take a look at a Super Duty and you'll see why. Then you might want to look at the stack of radiators. coolers and intercoolers in front of it. Even more stuff with no room. Then of course there's the front suspension that won't handle the weight, the transmission that won't handle the torque, the rear end that ...

If you really want a diesel, but one with a Super Duty already wrapped around it. It's so much easier.

A 6.0 liter barely fits in a Superduty, what the hell makes you think it'd fit in an F150?

I mean, I'm sure if you really, desperately, badly, seriously wanted one in your F150, with enough time, money and welding wire you could make it work. Would it be practical? Not really.

thanks for the input. i know that it wouldnt be practical but it is going to be just a project...i was actually going to replace the front suspension with the coilspring from the superduty...and take the motor and tranny from the superduty as well...

I toyed with that idea aswell. Not a project i wanted to take on far to much to swap with a diesel conversion. I have done many engine swaps. I have a friend who swap an f350 to a diesel and he had a whole truck to strip still was a ton of work. I dont think the chasiss would handle it well long term. I am in the midst of a v10 swap. I am even concernd about the long term tq stress on the frame. I did consider the dodge cummings as a swap better motor too the i6 seems to be a tougher package. It is quite a bit small from what i recall when looking at it.

My 2 cents.

thanks man i appriciate it...yeah i was even considering the cummings as well...i just think that a diesel in a new half ton would be a one of a kind project...and not some range rover motor

Yep i like original. Thats what i try for. The V10 i didnt think was so orginal. I have yet to find someone who did it to an f150. I have found mustangs and some other stuff that people have used it on. The diesel i did not start as i could not find a resonable doner truck. But i believe anything is possible given the correct tools and time and skill .

Look at all the work Banks had to put into the Sidewinder Dakota. That truck is completely bad-****, but it would be a monumental amount of effort.

How about ford's new 3.5 ecoboost diesel engine. I have a 2002 f150 supercrew with 5.4 triton v8 engine. I'm thinking of doing this engine swap as well. Does anybody know what kind of problem I will encounter? Any comment or suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you.

I wasn't aware that Ford made a 3.5 Ecoboost Diesel Engine. Can you provide more information on that motor please?

Correct. The current ecoboost is powered by gasoline and not diesel.

The Ecoboost has close to the same principles as a diesel motor but it is a gasoline motor.

The best engine to fit into an F150 for your "swap" would be a small 4 cylinder BT Cummins. There was a member on here or another forum that did this swap in an older 150. Ive even toyed with the idea but in the end it would be cheaper to just buy a diesel truck.
