bad engine 97 triton

i have a 98 f150 4.6, just bought it for 2k from a auction, the engine wont start, it moves a little bit , not much . i think a piston is gone , i was thinking of changing the block ,can you tell me which 4.6 block i could use?, i heard 4.6 soch blocks started production in 1992 or if i could put a 4.6 doch or 5.4 instead , could i use the same computer? thank you.:help:

I would recommend staying with a 4.6 out of a 97' thru 00' F150. So many were produced and should be no problem to drop in.

the block itself remains the same for the 4.6...
if you want to upgrade to a 5.4L you will need some help in the computer department so your not running lean.

if you can find a DOHC more power to ya bud.

I got a running 4.6 block out of a crown vic I'd sell ya. Was gonna find me a truck to put it in but bought a new truck instead so now it is just sitting

4.6

give some info on the block from the crown v lastorms, do u think it will fit?

lastorms 04-29-2007 07:09 PM

I dont think there is any difference in the block between truck and car, I'm not for certain tho, but i think you can just put all your externals on and be good to go

$

how much , how many miles on the block , what year.

flywheel.... 6 or 8 bolt?

6 - romeo

8 - windsor

correct me if im wrong? but that may pose a small obstacle... most cars were romeo build if i learned correctly.

Let me give ya the whole story of this motor. It came out of 97/98 crown vic.
Customer brought it to the shop because of a mis. After diagnoses found out the head gasket was leaking alittle. Took the heads off. Block was fine, sent the heads out to be machined. Heads came back, put everthing back togther, just to find out the heads were milled too much so the intake gasket would not seal around the coolant port. Motor runs strong, just leaks coolant, but i was going to make a plate to go between the intake and heads so it would seal, or you could just use your heads. The motor has about 78,000 miles on it and has only been out of the car about 4 months. Like i said, this motor ran very well. Thats the only reson I kept it, But since I bought a new truck, I dont need it anymore. I'd let it go for 475.00
I got some pics of it, just cant figure out how to post them

Just need to make sure the flywheels are the same diameter and bolt up to the torque converter the same.

Just did some checking and the windsor motor came with both the 6 and 8 bolt pattern, and the romero engine is a 6 bolt. You would just have to buy the right one for your truck if you have the different one. You can tell what motor you have by the vin#. the
8th digit is the engine code. 6-windsor ,W-romero.

vin #

1ftzx1767wna71064 , i think is a windsor.
