Firing Order
Hello,
Could somebody please tell me the firing order for a 92 F-150, 302, 2wd? I changed the spark plug wires (wet and wouldn't start), rotor, and cap. Ever since, it has been running rough and lacking power on acceleration. It doesn't do it all the time, but frequent enough. I am 99% sure I got the order right when I put it all back together. Thanks |
1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 unless it's a HO, that one is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.

What's an HO?
Thanks for the ordering. |
Actually, do you have a picture of what it should be wired like? I saw one at a link on here, but that was for a Bronco (and I can't find the link again). Found the sample picture...need the one for my truck http://www.supermotors.net/vehicles/...ry/media/72380

1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 distributor turns counterclockwise, number 1 cylinder is near windshield on passenger side firing order for 5.0 liter H.O. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 distributor turns counterclockwise, number 1 cylinder is near windshield on passenger side

Unless someone switched engines on you, you have the non-HO version (1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8) firing order. Have you checked your plugs? Timing? Plug gap? All are important for consistent performance.

I'll bet it is the crossfiring. I know I didn't route the wires the same way as before. I will check thet. The wires were a little shorter than what I needed.
Thanks. |
Update -
I rewired according to Steve's diagram. That was a great diagram....Thanks. Unfortunately, something got worse. I believe that the parts store might have given me the wrong wires because they were awefully loose on the plugs. I went and bought another set from Pep Boys. They looked much better. Installed those and new plugs. Followed Steve's routing diagram exactly and she purrs like a kitten now. Thank you all for your help. |
