Oil temp guage screwy
alright heres the deal, 2000 F150 5.4 ext. cab styleside under 80k miles. When i have started my truck the past couple of days my oil temp guage drops all the way and the light comes on. After a couple seconds of driving it will jump to where it should be and then the light goes off. It then flickers 2-4 times where it drops low and the light comes on real quick, but it then goes right back it. This only happens after a cold start and doesnt happen when the truck is warm. I have good oil level and good oil. Any suggestions as to what the problem is would help:confused:

Replace it. A new unit cost less than $10 from Ford. It sits just above your oil filter (or is that under?), just be sure to drain the oil before replacing the unit. Problem solved.

Did you add an oil temp gauge to your truck??? The factory only puts a COOLANT temp & an oil PRESSURE (fake).

oops i meant oil pressure....sry

if the engine does not make a ticking or clattering noise then it should be an oil pressure sending unit?? right?? would this make sense if it only does it on cold starts and ceases when the engine is warm, or do you think it is an oil pump issue??

Oil pressure sending unit, see post #2.

I have the same problem...but my dad took my truck to the dealership today...they said they would have to keep it overnight (it only does this when cold sitting for 5+ hours). The dealership also said it would be a $75 diagnostic test...I told my dad not to give in lol
