Gas Mileage

I just took my 2005 F-150 on a ong trip over the mountains to Indiana for Christmas and then back to Virginia. My only concern I had on the trip was my gas mileage with a 30 galon tank and Highway speeds I thought I would get better mileage out of my 5.4 motor. I got between 14-16 miles per gallon. Anyone else know what I am talking about. My 97 5.4 got better gas mileage. The truck is really nice and I really like it my wife bought it for me for christmas. So anyway feedback is appreciated as always.

Yup, sounds right to me. This time of year is not the greatest time to expect great mileage for one reason or many. I always get the best in the summer.

Wow, I'd take that for our automatic gassers!

Keep in mind your a rolling unaerodynamic brick with an automatic.

14-16 sounds normal to me going over mountains on winter blend gasoline. My 98 got 16-17 this past summer going up & down I-95 to Florida (no mountains).

That's normal , there will be times when you get better and worse. I had my 4x4 since 98 - The best I ever got was 20 mpg and that was starting in Michigan and the going thru Ohio on the turnpike 65mph on cruise. That was also very flat (no hills)
I filled up after getting in PA after that I got like 12mpg thru the mountains . I had fun in the mountains with the 5.4 lol.

The turbo diesel was the only truck that could better that , that pulled 26mpg steady..

I drove mine from here in Fort Bragg,NC to Redford,Michigan last month: it was stock on the way there and I did about 80 - 85 (90 on the 80/90 Ohio turnpike of course ) and it took about 2 1/2 tanks (I took I-77).

While I was home in Michigan I had the Exhaust installed and also a K&N Air Filter and to get back to Fort Bragg I drove 75 mph and it took about 2 1/2 tanks (I took I-75 to I-40 which is about 2 hours longer).

Anyway now that I( have my Edge Evolution Programmer I can clearly see that I get about 10 to 14 MPG in the city on Level 3; I haven't made any long trips yet with the Edge but I did make a short trip down I-95 just for the hell of it and I think I was getting about 17 or 18 MPG there.

I just fill'er up when she's empty and that's about it.

Holy Crap!! How did you get away with doin 90 on the pike!! Theres Ohio troopers everywhere!!!
I use to go with a girl near Harrisburg PA (Hummelstown) a couple years ago. I had an F350 regular cab diesel and my F150 supercab w/5.4L.
Hummelstown was exactly 513 miles from me (she was worth it!!) and I got netter milage with the diesel - 450 miles on that tank , I would fill up just before I got there. The 5.4L I would have to fill up after I crossed the Ohio PA line..

Wait!! I know how you got away with it , you would wait until someone going faster would pass and then you would follow , waiting for another to pass again - then follow them. That way you don't get busted lol

Great truck and the gas mileage is what it is and that is that. I will just keep it full and not pay attention to the mileage. I did notice that once I got up to about 95 the acceloration slowed down greatly. Is that normal?
