Question 2007 4.6L Increase to 248 HP

Ford is advertising an increase of 18 horsepower in the 2007 4.6L F150. I've been wondering how they accomplished the increase (is it real or a numbers game) and if anybody has had the opportunity to test one out.

I have a 230 HP 4.6 with 3:73 gears in my 2004 4WD XLT SCrew. It's not fast off the line, but honestly, it does the job. It hauls a crew with a fully loaded bed and trailer, up hills, just as if the truck were unloaded.

Still, I've driven a SCrew with the 5.4, and I like the extra pep around town. I'm planning to order a new 2007 4WD XLT SCrew, and am wondering about the new 4.6L or the 5.4L. Will I notice an improvement in the 4.6? Should i just go for the 5.4, or spend the money on a few other options I've been wanting?

Ah shoot, just get the 5.4l, I'm partial to em because I build them! Well, I'm kinda laid off because alot less people are buying them, so help me out. Kidding But seriously, I think for the extra 3-400 bucks, if that much, the power is noticed going from 4.6 to 5.4. There is too many incentives to ignore and not load them up so go for it. I do like the idea of base v-8 power increasing though!

Thanks, Blue. It's $743 invoice, $895 sticker. That can buy 3 or 4 other goodies instead.

Spray? What kinda spray? Some pep boys POS kit that will be horrible and not have any sort of progressive controller? Get ready for a voided warranty and lots of repairs. not to mention nitrous will only help under WOT... which leaves you w/o the power when you want to drive normally, causing frequent down shifting...

no thanks!

OK, lots of encouragement for the 5.4 here. I may go for it.

Still, I'd like to know how Ford added 18 horses to the 4.6, and if anyone has had a chance to notice any difference...

Only the FX4 and the Lariat come with the 5.4 standard. It's an option on other F150's.

Ive spent 128$ on my 4.6 and can beat a 5.4 with same body configuration as mine, just 4x4. But i had tools, my subs, and a full tank of gas in my truck.

Basically just intake and exaust work. Still stock 3.55s
You can ask Paul (fasterF150) my truck is pretty quick for the little money I have put into it.

No offense, but I don't think that's accurate. I used to work at a dealership and I drove the generation F150 you have ALL the time...there was a VERY noticeable difference between the 4.6 and 5.4. I just don't think intake and exhaust would make the difference...

My Dad owned a 1997 supercab 4x4 4.6 and although it wasn't bad, at WOT it sure wasn't a 5.4...

Not to mention, $128 won't buy a new intake, let alone an exhaust system (I'm referring to new prices, not special deals which you may have gotten).
