Alex Pepper's OBD-2.com software and interface
I have recently purchased an interface and I can't seem to get it to connect to the truck or any other vehicle for that matter. It sees the COM port which is actually USB to rs232 converter, but it gets no response from the PCM. I've tried so many different setting combinations, I'm at a loss to what else to try. Has anyone else experienced this with this equipment? Alex's site says he's on vacation till after the 4th, otherwise I'd ask him. Thanks.

It is mandatory that you enter your registration code. Otherwise, it will never allow a connection. I've been using this package for 3 or 4 years. Feel free to ask me how to do stuff. While I'm still learning it (I don't use it every month, after all), I've picked up a few of its quirks and subtleties. I do not know if the USB-RS232 converter setup will work or not unless you have the version that specifically supports it. One of these days, I'll try it.. Steve |
Well I toted my PC outside and hooked it up with a straight serial connection and got better results but still wouldn't connect. I'm thinking the USB to serial converter is a no go either way. Get the one for $20 from Alex if you need it.
Anyway I do have the code entered. When it goes to connect to PWM and VPW protocols, it says... over len= 16, timeout 3 mode = $01. I haven't got a clue what that means and I can't find anything in the help files. |
If you have active sync installed on your computer for a PDA make sure it is configured so it will not connect. If active sync is set to look for connection you won't be able to connect to your vehicle.

Sounds like you have one of the newer multi-protocol units...
Check pin 16 of the ODBII connector on your truck. It supplies battery power (switched) to operate the scan device. Steve |
I disabled the Hot Sync program prior to trying. I do have the blue route model so I can do some friends and families vehicles too. I have 12.5 volts on pin 16 of the connector.
