F-150 4.2 V6 Cylinder Order
Hey there fellow Ford riders.
Did a search but can only find info on the V8's order....I have a V6 and was wondering what is the cylinder order? Is this correct? <firewall> 3 6 2 5 1 4 <bumper> Thank you, ET |
Yes. That is correct. Ford numbers their cylinders from the front on the passenger side to the firewall and then from the front on the driverside to the firewall.

Thank you! Well, then that is not the cause of my sputtering problem. I give up, I really do. Tonight is going to be my final attempt - I am going to check the fuel injectors. From reading several threads, I guess the best way to see if one is bad is to unplug it while the engine is running...?
I have replaced all 6 plugs (with factory ones), the air filter, fuel filter, coil and plug wires; cleaned the TB and valve. I do not see any spark at night time and all 6 exhaust header outlets feel equally hot. ANY advice? PLEASE ! 1999 Ford F-150 XL V6 4.2L 5-speed (stick) w/ 75,000 miles. |
I just read your other post on your engine problem. Did you clean the EGR ports in the intake manifold? Take a close look at the crank pulley to make sure it is not crooked.

Yeah, that difference in the coil order vs the engine layout catches a lot of noobs to Ford's system.
Got me on a 94 SHO a few years back... and I wasn't a noob at that time. Got in a hurry and didn't pay attention. Steve |
Yeah, I got the numbers on the coil - especially since I replaced the damn thing too. This morning I could barely pull out of the driveway, so I has to take my motorcycle to work. I wanted to test the Fuel Injectors last night, but I could only reach one of them....intake manifold was in the way of the other.

Ok, if you want the fireing order here it is. 1-4-2-5-3-6. Refer to picture for wire routing.

aaah, okay. Thanks. I just removed the Throttle Body and could not find any such ports. So I am going to have to remove the whole intake manifold huh? |
