***Problem Resolved****Truck won't stay running. Any quick replies?
I just went out to head to work and my truck won't start. It turns over fine, and it will start, but dies as soon as I let off the gas. It will stay running as long as I keep on the gas a little. Can someone please steer me in the right direction. Thanks!
The truck is a 2000 F150 4x4 with the 5.4L V8, and was running just fine as of last night. |
My crystal ball also failed to start. Just kidding.
You need a bit more info. It can be a lot of things. Fuel, pump, fuse, ignition about anything at this point. :) |
Problem Resolved
Did some searching around on the site after I posted and eventually found someone with a similar problem. The replies to that post suggested cleaning or replacing the Idle Air Control (IAC). I removed, cleaned, and reinstalled the IAC and the truck is running great. Once removed, I could easily tell that the valve inside the IAC was indeed stuck. Cleaning the valve consisted of spraying brakleen inside (as recommended in the other post) and working the valve back and forth until it was moving easily. I used more brakleen to remove the gunk, let the inside dry out, and reinstalled it.
I guess someone elses crystal ball WAS working. Thanks for the reply. This site has proved to be an awesome resource once again. Thank you to all who contribute! |
I am having the same problem with mine. However I can't seem to find the IAC. According to the chiltons it should be next to the TPS and EGR valve. I was wondering where you foind it? Thanks.

Zach here's what I know.... On 2000 5.4 and other similar yrs and models the iac is behind the throttlebody. it is bolted on to the throttlebody with 2 bolts and has one electrical wire coming out off it. It may be easier just to take the whole throttle body off and clean it all...... Link>>>https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...ttle-body.html |

Thanks for the info. I posted before I saw the date on it. I found it later that same day and now it runs great. Appreciate the help though.
