Code diagnostic tool?

Hi all.

I'm looking for a tool to decode "check engine" codes myself.

Is our system an OBD-2 system? I see lots of diagnostic tools on ebay for like $50.

Why spend the money. Go to your local Autozone and have the code checked for free...

Because I like having my own tools rather than having to drive into town to the local Auto Zone. $50 isn't a big deal to me.

So back to the original question, is the 1998 F-150 (4.2L) an OBD-2 compliant system?

Yes.

I'm with you. Having our own tools ROCKS. I've been holding out for an AutoTap system for my Palm. But that's $$$$$

I want my own too. I like this one.

They are all over eBay, but usually go for around $75 shipped.

I have the Actron CP9135, it cost a little more but it provides the diagnosis too instead of just the code. I do highly reccomend it.
