What's the deal??
I purchased a new '04 FX4 Supercab five months ago and have been extremely dissapointed in the performance. Two days after picking it up it was back in the shop for a stuck, thankfully open, thermostat. Since then I have been averaging 12.6 MPG and the acceleration is very poor through most of the power range. The only time it feels good is going from 60 to 80. The torque appears to be good as I don't really feel much effect from pulling my 18' bass boat. ...same acceleration.
Now for the question; is there something I can do to improve the gas mileage and the acceleration? A friend read in one of his offroad magazines that the factory inadvertantly programmed a few of the '04's incorrectly and that it can be fixed by having it reprogrammed from a dealer. My local dealer hasn't heard of this and my "freind" failed to save the article for me. So, has anyone heard of this and have advice of where I can find all of this information? This truck will not even turn the stock tires over powerbraking it. Not that I need to do that a lot but I am just trying to run it through all the tests. My previous truck was a comparable size '02 chevrolet and there is absolutely no comparison in performance. This new truck is a dog and it shouldn't be. Please advise! Thanks in advance for any suggestions! |
I would talk to Mike Troyer at Troyerperformance.com. He is the tuning expert (boy, if that's not an understatement), he can really wake up the F-150. Hope this helps.

Several members have posted regarding "ECU reflash" of their 04's due to problems. Is their another dealer nearby that you can check with?
