Ahhh High Idle

well i still have high idle... so far i have changed out the front o2's, took the iac off cleaned that put a new gasket on it, i cleaned the maf by spraying the he// outta it, i dowsed the tb with tb cleaner(still attached to the truck) took hoses off and sprayed in the holes to the tb. does anyone else have any other ideas that i can try? its still at about 1000 and serches to 1200 and back down constantly. its pretty annoying not to mention wasting gas. any suggestions of what to try next:(

check your tps (throttle position sensor)

racerf150man 03-31-2005 05:54 PM

i noticed they are like 45 bucks... are they adjustable or is it just a replacment thing.

Buy it new if thats your problem, any codes??

Most common cause of a fast idle is a vacuum leak. A medium vacuum leak provides enough air to run the engine at idle. Check the PCV hose back near the throttle body in its elbow.

nope no codes... ill check both tho tomorrow

Faster150 03-31-2005 11:29 PM

could also check the set screw on the throttle body

racerf150man 03-31-2005 11:39 PM

how do u check that?

Faster150 04-01-2005 02:12 AM

its unlikely is moved... their kinda tig welded in place but its a stop for the throttle body. says not to adjust or damage or it may change ur idle

racerf150man 04-02-2005 12:37 AM

just to update everyone... i sprayed the deep clean seafoam everyone on all the vac lines and they were all fine... i tapped the iac with a screwdriver, then disconnected the tps... hooked it back up and went inside the truck.. running at 6-700 rpm's  i dont kno which it was but the thing has never idled better since ive owned it! thanks for you help everyone

racerf150man 04-06-2005 11:29 PM

well its back at high idle... i have no idea what to do anymore.. im going to go to ford and buy an IAC tomorrow unless someone has anything else to check before i go get it.

Almost sounds like the TPS connector may be a little dirty, if you unplugged then replugged, and it changed the idle?,,,,98

I know this kinda sounds odd but check the pcv valve. They can get stuck and it lets gases back in causing mixture to be off. If it is the problem you will notice right away when you pull it out, the idle will suddenly drop to where it suppose to be. Try not to disturb the pcv valve and see if it rattles. Be easy because you can brake it loose. I recommend changing it anyways it is less than $3.00.

Like I said I know it sounds silly but I had this problem once, and someone on here helped me out with it.

Good luck

well i didnt resort to the iac yet... i did however unplug the tps sprayed the he// out of the connectors wiht the electrical cleaner stuff.. i unhooked my battery ( i never did that when i put the new tps in) and im praying it works.. i did check the pcv one more time but i have used sea foam threw it so it must be working and it rattles.

May want to save your money on the IAC. I've got the same problems and have gone through all the suggestions including changing the IAC and testing the voltage output of the TPS and found it is in spec.

I've ordered a new TPS which will arrive next week and I'll let you know how it goes.

Good luck
