Muffler Suggestions

I am looking to get a Flowmaster muffler. I dont want a muffler that will have that BRAP sound when I take off (like glass packs) but I want it to make a nice, louder than normal grumble, low pitch noise when I start it up and accelerate. I was looking at the Super 40 series on line. Any suggestions for a 302 engine?

Note: I do plan on true dual exast replacing from headers down, but that is in the future. I do need a new exaust and I want something with more sound for now. Currently mine is just stock.

I have a '94 K-5 Blazer with a 350, i put the 40 series Flowmaster on it, and it sounds awsome. There realy isnt alota "Brap" to it, but it does sounds nice. Also, it wont "gurgle" when you let off the gas, it keeps alota backpressure on the motor.

Cool

pwykoff, I would stay away from the Flowmaster's stuff. Neal "HP Freak" had them on his truck and wasn't long before he had to take them off and re-weld as it was splitting. Also the Lightning guys have done some major R & D on what mufflers work for their trucks and they found that they actually LOST power when running the Flowmaster. They found that the Magnaflow's stuff actually made HP & TQ on their trucks. Neal got fed up with the welding and dumped all of his Flowmaster stuff and went to a Magnaflow setup. I also followed him when my exhaust needed replacing. Love the sound and gives a nice rumble when idling. Like the Magnaflow sound better than the Flowmaster so much that I will not tell anyone to get an exhaust from anyone else. Buddy has a 318 Dodge Dakota and he just put a Magnaflow on it and he loves the sound too.

Have Fun & Keep on Truckin'

Flowlaster is the #1 most complained about muffler on this website, since I've been here.

This is the best sounding muffler that I've ever heard on an F-150:

Max,

That looks like a glorified glass pack to me. I bet it does sound pretty good.

I have a flowmaster 50 series delta flow on my 01 supercrew 5.4L

It is not that loud. It does sound good under a load, but not a lot of in cab rumble, which is good for the long hauls. The muffs that are not the delta flow have very annoying in cab sound during long (constant speed) trips.

Haven't heard of any coming apart.

Thank you all for replies. I really appreciate it, sorry it took so long to reply. I'd like something that sounds great but with no in-cab noise (not much). Magnaflow vs. Flowmaster it seems. I like the muffler that is straighthrough, but will that act like a "glorified glasspack"? Thanks much all. Take care.

I had the same debate. What exhaust do I get?

After reading these forums day in and day out, it would seem there is only one way to go: Magnaflow.

I am going to put the 15609 on my '97 F-150.

You can get the set from http://www.hottexhaust.com/ , and if you use the coupon 'FordTruck8' you save almost $100. Great Deal!

Wow those are reallllly expensive. I wouldn't want to show those off or get them dirty. I don't mind if it gets a little rusty. Thanks much for the suggestions. It'd be really nice if maybe someone could record their mufflers and post their files online. Can anyone do this? If you have a digital camera or Cell Phone you can do it!

about $100 more than a cold air intake (with the coupon), and looks and sounds better... nothing good quality is cheap.

i have a 98 f150 witha 4.6 ltr i had installed a single 3" all the way engine to the tail tip, with a V-force muffller designed by flo-pro but made by flow master. it sounds great like i have headers
no power lost but if i go dual i lose some power. my truck does sound like it has dual exhaust. you can hear my truck a block away. **** you not.

Muffler suggestions

This is just a different observation
I hv a 2005 FX4 5.4L I removed the muffler system as the truck comes with 2 catalytic convertors (1 for each bank)
I ran straight pipes Its loud for 1 min as the baffles in the 2 convertors heat up Then quiet Larger than stock exhaust pipes out the rear sides and stainless steel tips No back pressure and only gets loud when you tromp on it I hv a Hypertech programmer III and i push about 355 horse power now
As I said just a different way to look at it RIP
