can't find 5w20 oil

where i live nobody but the dealer carries motorcraft, or mobile1 in 5w20 oil. they all seem to have the 5w30. is it ok to use this?

hcmq Feb 8, 2005 07:34 PM

your not looking hard enough!

motorcraft is not the only one that makes 5w-20

I believe in mobil 1 you would use 0w-20

wal mart
autozone
napa
pep boys
advance auto
etc

yes 5w-30 will be fine.

hixonium Feb 8, 2005 08:01 PM

Also try O'reilly auto parts if you have one, the ones in my area carry the Motorcraft 5W-20. Don't know about the Mobil 1.

Johngs Feb 8, 2005 11:59 PM

mobil1 uses 0w20 as their 5w20 equivalent oil.

Motorcraft 5w20 is hard to find it seems, autozone seems to be the cheapest place but I think just about all the parts stores carry it.

Hey Grantcool

Try Autozone. I was buying motorcraft 5-20 at the local WalMart, but in trying to buy some anda filter this weekend I saw they were out and asked the manager why no motorcraft oil. He said that the local Ford dealership complained that they were being undersold, and not wanting to have a problem with them they (the local Walmart) have discontinued carrying Motorcraft products. I then checked at Autozone, and they have Motorcraft products and bought 6 qts of 5-20 @ 2.39 from them, which is cheaper, I am sure, than the Ford deallership. I also bought all the remaining FL-820S filters (4) from Walmart.

Now for the truth. Wally tried to squeeze Ford and Ford told wally to shove it. If what that manager said was true, then why is it still available at advance auto, etc?

5w20 oil

Look in ur phonebook and find an Amsoil Dealer ask for the Amsoil 0W30, thats the best you can get and that oil is good for 36,000 miles in ur engine before it needs changed. Also go to Amsoil.com and you can order it online. When you first use Amsoil notice a few things, you will get higher gas milage, and watch where the needle is on ur temp guage after ur truck is warmed up, ur needle will be lower now where it was before. Amsoil claims "0" internal engine wear, and they have charts where they tested their oil with Mobil 1, play close attention to the "3 ball wear test" thats the best test on rating motor oil. Moto - turn off the marketing crap - it has been spouted many times here - we all know the marketing hype - no need to keep cramming it down our throats.

Besides, NEO is vastly superior to Amsoil.

Maybe people would be more open to using Amsoil if they didn't have a bunch of obnoxious distributors that keep cramming their marketing hype down our throats.

You made the claim, now show your proof.

I hear some great stuff claimed about Amsoil but I can't help but associate it with that evil religion "Amway".

Went to the website. If you think 0-W30 is worth $5.95 and 5-W20 is worth $5.20 PER QUART when compared to the oil in the rest of the world, you must be drinking that $8.00 per galon bottled water and complaing about $2.00 per gallon gas.

ahhh, now I remember why MotoF was the first member of this site to make my ignore list. If I want to listen to a bunch of advertising crap, I'd disable my popup blocker or turn on my TV.

Who the hell would go 36,000 miles without a oil change?

Your Amsoil website says to change your amsoil 0w30 oil every...
" 7500 miles or six months "
... whichever comes first.

What the hell is your deal? what are you gaining by telling people untrue mis-information that could be very costly to them?

I just dont get it

There is other weights 5w20 only 7500

Series 2000 Synthetic 0W-30 Motor Oil

In personal cars and light-duty trucks with non-turbocharged gasoline engines: change the oil at 35,000-mile or one-year intervals, whichever comes first.
, but you have 5w30, 20w50 are 25,000 miles.

Now get off your HIGH HORSE and come down to earth.
