Cool

Yes, I'm curious how it all works out, I have a 98 Expy with a 5.4 and want to change my heads out to the P.I. heads as well. I'm going one step further and changing the guages to the 99' and up style when I get the P.I. heads. Let me know how your surgery goes and how it runs......Thanks

I keep seeing posts about P.I. heads. What are P.I. heads? I am assuming they are SVO performance heads. I don't know any specs. on oem 5.4 heads (2001) if anyone has specs. would like to know. Chamber CC. runner CC, Valve size.etc. I don't know alot about these "new" Ford engines and would appreciate any information you guys could provide. Would like specs. on 5.4 engine Thanks :santa:

PI means "performance improved" and all 4.6 and 5.4 from 99MY and up got them.

Skip584 - I don't have specs in the below post, but there are some pictures showing the differences between the two heads.

Big picture - the PI heads have a smaller combustion chamber, larger exhaust valve and flow bettter from the factory. I think the intake port has more volumen as well.

Hey Ted98, could you explain the problem and why the powersteering bolt gives so much problems when doing headgasket jobs?

y2kxlt - that 4th bolt sits directly behind the line going into the pump, so you can't get a ratchet on it. So you either have to use a ratcheting wrench or a regular wrench. The bolt is fairly long so it takes a while to get it out when you can barely turn it.

It isn't hard to remove it, it is just timeconsuming. With the line out of the way, it comes out in no time. Plus I really needed to change the P/S fluid anyway.

The good news about the PS bolt is that you only need 3.

From the book:

6. Remove the upper power steering pump bolts.

7. Note:
Early build 4.6L and 5.4L engines may have two lower power steering pump bolts; the second bolt may be discarded upon removal of the power steering pump.
