coolant mod = no more pinging

I thought I had posted this a couple of months ago, but I guess I didn't.

Anyone that has pinging with their 4.6 can check out my experience with doing this modification.

Did some coolant mods on my 01 Bullitt that had to much timing and was pinging. IT fixed the probs and the car ran like a champ!

Hey man, I am trying to figure out if I have the PI intake. I have a 2001 4.6L, but it was built in 10/00. I was once told that as per this pic:

...the non-PI head setup was opened up there on the #1 & #5 intake runners. I was also told that "PI" would be cast into the block on the pass. side near the manifold. Well, I do not have the "PI" casting, but my intake looks like your "PI" intake in that the runners are "solid" rather than open on #1 & #5, although mine has all 4 of those bungs cast into the lower front side of the intake, where as the "PI" intake has only two. The one on the left has something connected to it, but the one on the right is plugged. Any thoughts on this? Thanks!!!

BTW, I purchased the 2001 model F-150 4.6L V8 because I could get 231 HP and have the 5-speed. It was a 30 HP trade off from the 260 HP automatic, in favor of the 5-speed. I don't suppose Ford would do anything for me since I didn't get what I thought I was paying for huh?

I think the only 100% way to tell if you have a PI intake is to pull it and look at the shape of the intake ports - PIs have square ports and the NPIs have oval shaped ports.

I don't think that looking at the outer casting is going to be a sure fire way to tell. I have 3 4.6 NPI intakes in my basement and all three of them are a little different. The only thing in common is the oval ports.
