Fuel Filter Change...a poem

Thanks to this group I found out,
That the state of my fuel filter was in doubt,
So I read all the posts and drove to the store,
To pick up the parts and tools for the chore.

On a 3/8" disconnect tool I spent twenty bucks,
The guys who posted that thread, are dumb *** f*%@s,
Turns out 5/16" is the tool for the job,
So back to the store, more cash they did rob.

The filter in place looked 10 years old,
Had to wait though, 'til the engine was cold,
I relieved the pressure on the fuel line,
Layed down on the creeper, one more F*$&ing time.

I did everything right, just like in the guide,
But that mother-f&$@ing connector would not slide,
I worked for an hour, flat on my back,
Until finally the dirt, sh$t and rust I could crack.

The filter came off, freed from its place,
And a quart of gasoline poured down on my face,
That was OK, as it helped to dillute,
The 1/2 inch of undercoating, ground into my snoot.

The new filter slid in, as easy as pie,
The previous owner, I wish he would die,
So take it from me, this is all about gas,
Change that f*$#ing filter, it's a pain in the a$$.

Nice.

Just did the same. only took 30 minutes and only paid $3-4 for a tool at Auto Zone that does both 3/8" and 5/16.

Should have only taken 15 minutes, but had a little trouble getting the old filter off, but nowhere near the amount of trouble you had. I also had the truck up on ramps to get a little more working room.

15 minutes? I can change mine out in 6-8 minutes! And,I never relieve the pressure! Being i'm a pipefitter by trade,I made a fuel filter bracket spreader to ease the removal-installation of the filter.
To prevent fuel line removal problems,I spray some WD-40 in the connectors every oil change. Also spray the door latches with WD-40 too, every oil change.Keeps the dome light and door ajar light from ever getting stuck on.

When you take your new filter out of the box, remove the little rubber end caps off each end and put them on the old filter before removing it from the bracket. This will keep you from geting the gas all over yourself.
