I've used CRC Brakleek to clean the IAC, EGR, MAF... pretty much anything that collects gunk or oil. The Brakleen in the red can is an effective degreaser that leaves no residue and it's not too caustic. The green can will eat the skin off your fingers

I would use a "throttle body" cleaner only. Using anything else would most likely strip the protectant coating in the TB. I use CRC TB cleaner, which says"TEFLON SAFE" rite on the can.You can get it at Pep Boys or Advance auto parts. :santa:

I ended up using that stuff in the IAC and it worked well.

The truck was making this super loud hum at idle and cleaning the IAC out fixed it.

I just took it off, sprayed the cleaner in there, let it sit awhile, sprayed some more in there, and kept doing that. Then did one real good flush with brake cleaner and used an air compressor to blow air through it. Then let it sit and dry for awhile and then put it back on. It works well and the humming noise is gone.

how do you get to it?

Hi all,

I looked into doing this "simple" operation the other day, but on my 2002 5.4 it is WAY back in the engine compartment. Even my 6'7" brother in law couldn't reach it. We removed the plastic "5.4 Triton" piece and I finally saw it, but couldn't reach it. Does anyone have some advice to make it easier to reach? Or am I looking at the wrong part?

Thanks!

As I posted on another string, put a towel or rags(s) under the IAC in case you drop one of the bolts.

The wrench at the dealership has a special tool he uses...

It is a half-sheet of 1/2" plywood that he sets across the front of the engine compartment so he can lay on it. He puts fender aprons on both sides first, of course.
