1.7 RR's?
This is my first post on this informative board.
I did a breif searh for some answers but thought I'd ask it again anyways! I have a '97 4.6. 1. Does it have 1.6 stamped steel rockers now? 2. Are there any gains by going to 1.7 RR's? I know the friction would be reduced but how does the extra lift react? 3. Can they be used with the stock valve covers? 4. What brands are reccomended (price is a factor)? The other mods I would be doing at the same time are, cold air intake, shorty headers. I read a 75mm throttle body isn't worth much, true? Any other reccomendations are appreciated! Thanks, James |
There are no rockers on a 4.6. They are cam followers. The stock ratio is 1:8.
They make roller followers http://www.secondstreetspeed.com/ also see this thread, big coin for the gain. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ghlight=roller On a roller 5.0 late model stang the switch from 1:6 to 1:7 is about .030 more valve lift. It also speeds up the valve , although not enough to have any real effect on duration. I would however recommend changing the stock valve srings, as they are weak to begin with. |
