Thumbs up How many are in the 200,000 mile club?

How many of us are in the 200,000 mile club? My 97 F-150 Lariat Xcab Longbed just rolled over 275,000 - still going strong! All I have done (besides normal maintainence) is: 4 O2 sensors, 1 ABS sensor, radiator, and a bushing in the starter. How far can a 5.4 go?

249,000 on my 97 F-150.It is mostly original. I've had to change 2 o2's, the bearings in the alternator, the bearings in the diff (carrier and pinion, about $100 in parts and lube). It uses 1qt of oil every 1500 miles. Still looks and runs great. The drivers seat looks great but the springs are getting weak.

I just bought a 97 Ext Cab 4.6 2WD last week with 205,500 miles on it..

I guess I just bought my way into this club. Of course, the wife is pi$$ed about the truck so i probably will flip it to a guy I work with in a week or two. I just gave her the job of finding a truck. I told her that anything she pays extra for it comes out of her budget for a new house...

bent6: I have a whining alternator bearing. did you replace the bearing yourself or take it to a shop? If you did it yourself, could you post as to the source and price of the bearing and how to replace it? If a shop did it, what was the charge?

397,000 miles on the 460 in my 87 F250, although not running right now, when it was it leaked about a quart between oil changes, just marking its territory I guess. It was taken out by the oil pump going out and I just didn't know if I wanted to fix it.

SHO,

I had a local rebuilder change the bearings. It cost me about $20. If you want to do it yourself, I'd try removing them and going to Motion Industries http://www.motionindustries.com/moti...p/mi/index.jsp
I don't think they could look you up by application. You'll need to get the numbers off you bearings or take them the bearing to match up. Ford dealers may have an alternator kit with bearing and brushes.

Good luck

Just traded my '99 ext cab for an '03. It had 220,000 and the dealer took it no questions asked. It ran and looked great( wouldn't suprise me if they don't plug it in and roll back a few miles. it is so new and in such good shape. It was never smogged so the state has no record of the milage.) I could have prob. run it for another 80k or so but I use it for my business and need to make sure that I have something super reliable. Just didn't want to push it to failure when I could least afford it. Besides, the rebates and matching money for my down payment more than made up for the hit I took on the blue book value with the extra milage.

I traded my wifes 96 Escort for the 97 I currently have now. My dad owned it before me, and it saw a lot of rough miles working in the copper mine in Bagdad Arizona (yes, Arizona, not Iraq ). Needless to say, I have done a few things, but nothing too major yet. It has 152,900 on it now, and the only things I have done is change the plugs (dad never got around to it, and I had to do it at 140,000 or so) change a rear diff seal, 2 O2 sensors and get the tranny mounting bolts replaced (lazy dealer mechanic that worked on the transfer case, I suspect, when dad had it). The only problem I have now is the A/C is blowing out the defrost duct when I load the engine going up a hill or anything to that nature. I suspect a vacuum leak somewhere, and I posted in the HVAC section, and I hope that someone has a good fix action to help a wannabe shade tree mech like myself.

For a truck that lived in the rough conditions that it has, not too shabby I think...

Cheers, and thanks for any suggestions on that bloody A/C prob...

Have fun with the truck.

Cheers

FWIW I still stand my F-150, and I know that soon I will be in this club...

My '86 Bronco has 217,000 on it. I put in a long block at 175,000. The original motor was running fine and making just as much power as it always did. It did not even burn any oil. Unfortunately, the harmonic balancer came apart and caused quite a bit of vibration in the engine before I could get it pulled off the road. I replaced the harmonic balancer and it still ran fine, but the rear main seal started leaking about 1 quart of oil every 300 miles. I figured I could just replace the seal, but the main bearings were problably not in too good of shape. I decided to put in a long block.

Before I put in the new engine, it still had the original starter and alternator. I had replaced several water pumps and power steering pumps though. That is about all that I had done to it. Oh, I did replace all the tie rod ends and ball joints at about 90,000 miles.

My F100, now retired to farm duty at my grandparent's is in the 500k range. It needs serious engine and transmission work now, though. My plans are to swap in maybe a Ford 400 block, I think.

I know jack crap about Ford engines, I'm mostly a Chevy man, so I don't know what engines are good for a Ford truck. The 5.4 in my truck is great, but I'm not going to go FI in the 82 f100.
