Engine Missing
I need a little help with this current problem.
Problem: My '97 F150 is mssing terribly, it spits and sputters
when I give it gas to pass or at low mph. The check engine came on, I stopped at the local Auto Zone to see what the engine fault code was it turned out to be 7303. The guy told me it was a misfire on cylinder 3.
What I've done so far.
1) added 2 bottles of dry gas and filled it up. - Same problem
2) Checked the #3 spark plug for spark. - good spark
3) Replaced the plug anyway with a new one. - continued good spark.
4) replaced Coil pack - Same problem continued
5) added 104 Octane booster - problem continued
Tonight I'm taking it to my buddy's work and have the fuel injectors cleaned.
Am I on the right track? I don't know what else it could be.
any suggestions

Sounds to me like a bad wire. It does have wires does it not, or is it the coil on plug style. I was under the impression that the coil on plug did not come out untill 2000. Anyway most wire problems show up under load. Other than that I would say you are on the right track. If notheing else works you may want to do a compression check on #3.
Good Luck

I have the same problem on my 98F150. The first time it happened was back in sept. I ended up changing a coil pack and plugs. It seemed to help, but then it would start doing it again occasionally. When it started doing it the first time the check engine light would only flash and then go out again. I had it scanned and there was no code in the computer. Two days ago it started again, now this time the light stays on. I havent gotten it checked yet. Hoping to find something out here. Please post if you find out what the problem was.
Does it seem like a stumble when giving it gas? I have the same damn problem. I have had my injectors cleaned, replaced my plugs and wires and still have the same damn problem. I dont know what to do to fix this problem. I have an appt @ford tomorrow so Ill let you know what they say. If you find anything out please let me know also.

DTC
P0301 through P0310 Misfire Detection Monitor
Description
The misfire detection monitor is designed to monitor engine misfire and identify the specific cylinder in which the misfire has occurred. Misfire is defined as lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, poor compression, or any other cause.
Possible Causes
-Ignition system
-Fuel injectors Running out of fuel
-EVAP canister purge valve
-Fuel pressure
-Evaporative emission system
-Base engine
Diagnostic Aides
The MIL will blink once per second when a misfire is detected severe enough to cause catalyst damage. If the MIL is on steady state, due to a misfire, this will indicate the threshold for emissions was exceeded and cause the vehicle to fail an inspection and maintenance tailpipe test.
If you do a search on P030* then you will find a list of posts on what people did with this.

Last night I had the injectors & throttle body cleaned. It really needed it. But the problem continued afterwards. So as a last ditch effort I bought new plug wires and replaced only the 3rd cylinder plug wire. Problem went away no more misfires. Now I have to replace the rest of the plugs and wires. Thanks for everyones suggestions.
Dude. I went outside today after reading your post abut the new plugs. I checked mine and the 2nd one back on the passenger side was so loose I could twist it out with 2 full turns. So I have since tightened and checked the gap on all my plugs and my problem also seems to be fixed! I love it when its an easy fix. Good luck with your wheels.
