Exhaust for our 4.2's

Ok I know its only a V6 and probobly sound like pissed off bumble bees most the time. But what about putting a straight pipe on (leaving the converter on) and have a 3 inch tip? Now im not talking about duals im just saying cut the muffler off and fit it with a straight pipe and weld on a 3 inch or bigger tip. What do you think? I really dont like the cackle that comes from trucks, I can deal with a little bit of it but not a lot.

Sorta like what I did, but with a turndown and no welds. If you have the 5spd I say go for it, however you will lose ALOT of low end on a automatic. Go for a good catback on a auto, unless you have 4.10's or 4.30's on stock tires.

Talleywacker:

Did you do your exhaust yourself? It looks fairly simple or is it? I would like to do this mod for my truck but I dont want to shovel out the cash since college starts for me on the 15th (beer, I mean book money). Anyway if you did it yourself could you describe the process to me. I do know of some friends with cutting torches and welders that I can use if need be. But I would realy only like to have to use them on the exhaust tip.

Yeah... Here goes:

Use a hack saw and cut your stock muffler off. use two 2 1/2" exhaust clamps and a section of pipe (I found a 3' section at pep boys) and cut it to equal length... and bolt it on. My price came out to be 15 bucks.

Recommended on 5-spd's or auto's w/ 4.10+ gears.

NOT recomended on stock gear'd auto's.
