Any good Ford books, manuals?

Is there any chance that there is a good book or manual that explains just how our trucks operate. I have a 01 4.2 5 speed. What would be interesting, and in my case, a great learning experience is a book that explained how the ignition system operated, the components involved, the emission system, computer inputs it looks for etc. I guess just overall how these newer trucks operate and the principles behind it. It’s not like I don’t know anything about trucks or cars. I use to love working on my 79 Camaro all the time but that didn’t have the computer and all the advanced systems trucks and cars have today. I am not necessarily looking for a repair manual, unless it goes into that type of detail explaining the systems and how they operate but rather a book that just explains it. Even something like a course type book, but something with Ford in mind. Anyway if you have any good ideas or sources for finding something like that I appreciate any information you may have.

The other option is Talleywacker could just write the book and I’d buy a copy from him, signed I hope.

Haynes is up to 99

I wish that the Haynes Manuals folks would get there act together and update their manual for the F150. I keep asking them to. Maybe we could get everyone to send them a note and ask when the book will be updated.

Most of what you want is probably covered in the 97-99 manual, but I'm always concerned about the differences.

I have a manual for my wife's car and my Honda and their manuals are very well written. Certainly not perfect, but they are helpful.

Yes, I know of a good one.

Title: Understanding Ford Fuel Injection

You can buy it right from your local Ford dealer. While it covers all types of Ford and Mazda EFI systems, it mostly deals in theory, testing, and technical details. It also covers EEC-IV and EEC-V with OBD-II. It will give you a solid information foundation and technical resource. I consider it the second most valuable book I've ever purchased. (Kama Sutra being the first. . .)

I believe you can also buy it from Summit and Jegs.

TO learn how these trucks work I would recommend two manuals. The Haynes and Chiltons. Get both beacuse each one indivudaly will not cover everything but I have found together they cover just about everything on these trucks. If your looking for repair information I recommend the Ford 96-02 DVD Shop manual. I got one off Ebay for $35.00, best investment I ever made. This CD covers anything and everything that is bolted, snapped, or even glued onto these trucks from the factory. And it also covers TSBs, Recalls, and Emmissons.

those two books mentioned are OK, but they are not the best and on some things are not accurate.

Let me work out some things.... I think I can get hold of a Ford Shop manual for you, I'll talk to my uncle tonight.

These are the most accurate books out there, it's what the mechanics at a ford dealership goes by.
