Thinking of getting a 150
Hi All,
I have been a very happy owner of a 1994 Ford Ranger but age & milleage has taken it's toll on it. Since it is close to the end of the 2002 model year, I have found it hard to find a Ranger the way I want it except loaded ones.
So I have decided to maybe step up to a 2002 150. I am trying to keep costs down so I am thinking of staying with the 4.2L EFI V6. Has Ford solved some of the problems that I have read in the message board? Does this engine have decent pick up? My Ranger had the 4 banger and I have always found it offered plenty of speed unless it was turn up time. Not looking for speed but travel alot and need passing speed.
Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!

Howdy!
Take it from a previous '94 Ranger owner (4 banger
) who stepped up to an F-150. I went from a Reg. cab Ranger to a Super Cab 99 F150 with the V6 and the stick. I've had no problem and I'm at 35,000 + miles. The reason I got one was because my buddy (the hardest person I've ever seen on a vehicle) got a 97 V6 F150 and ragged the hell out of it for 130,000 miles and had not ONE problem, until he totaled it that is
. Go test drive'em, you'll love it. Only thing I don't like is that my little rg. cab Ranger was much more maneuverable whereas my Sup. Cab F150 isn't quite as agile (go figure!). All in all, great decision and no looking back. I might even get a new one in 2005 or so after they give it the full face lift in 2004 (rumor).
P.S. The speed is NO comparison, I could be towing two Jet Skis, mount bigger tires, and weight down the bed and still hang if not pass a 2.3 or 2.5 Ranger off the line or passing or whatever you want.

Do It!!!!! You will not regret it.. I have had many Rangers, both 4 and 6 cyl., autos and manuals....there is no comparision. The F-150 reg cab 4.2 will outperform the Ranger hands down. You may even find that due to the size and safety of the 150 insurance may be alittle less. Plus if needed, you an even use it as a truck to haul and tow. You may even find yourself getting lost with all the new interior room. And as if the reasons above are not enough....look at the price of the new 02's. At least here in the DFW area you can get a base F-150 for less than $12,000 after rebates. Or a nice F-150, reg cab, flairside, 4.2, 5-speed, cruise, tilt, sliding rear window, PS, PB, am/fm/cd, and sport pkg for around $14,500 or better.
Or if you want a X-Plan PIN let me know and I will send you an application.

you couldn't make a better decision. Just this month I moved up to a F-150 from my ranger of 6 years. I love it. As already mentioned, the performance is great, the size is great. two thumbs up.
