Unhappy Check Engine

I have a 99 4.2l f-150 bone stock. This week end the check engine light came on,pulled the codes, showed both banks running rich. Anybody have any ideas as to where to start?
Thanks, Jim

Question

What kind of unit do you have to pull the codes from the conptuer? I've been looking to buy a scanner but I dont know where to start looking. I have a 2000 V6 and the check engine light has come on twice. Nothing disconnecting the batery cable hasnt fixed! Thanks..Mike

running rich isnt too bad of a problem to have, since about all it can do is foul the plugs.

The problem is probably with your MAF sensor or maybe too much fuel pressure resulting in too much fuel being let in by the injectors. Also could be crap O2 sensors. i'd try testing and/or cleaning the MAF first.

also, dont worry too much since a rich mixture won't damage your engine; all it can really do is foul your plugs and make you pollute a little more, and reduce the power output a bit. i fly planes and too rich a mixture isnt something you really worry about, but too lean is! (leads to overheating and detonation among other things).
