Engine go bye bye

I was comming home from Memphis Thursday, when it happened. We stoped at a little store to get drinks and a few other things, when i got back outside and started up the truck, it sounded like i was driving a kenworth! Some how the engine stayed toghter for another 100 miles before it let out right in front of the ford dealer. All i had to do was coast her into the parking lot. They said that the crank was moving in and out of the motor a little ways, and two of the rods were almost gone. they were suprised that it stayed toghter so long. I cant wait to get my truck back.

Is it under warranty

I am assuming by your post that this will be under warranty?

I can tell you that if it isn't it will be expensive.

JABTAY

My deepest sympathies.

How many miles on your truck?

and what kind of oil (brand-weight-change interval) were you running??

Hope it's under warrenty buddy!

no unfortunatly there is no warranty. Its gonna be the most expensive trip i have ever took. I was living dangerously using synthetic 5-30.

Just curious, how many miles were on it??

That really sucks, man

I had 88,xxx on it. and after reading some other posts i am going to call the ford dealer and see if the timing gasket was screwed up. I lost some anti freeze, so maybe thats what happened. it did start having a ticking sound for a couple of months before it finally died. My truck was built in late 97 so maybe........

Recall number

When you call ask if recall 99B29 was performed. They will probably tell you that your truck wasn't affected by it. They tell most everyone that. That is bullcrap. Any 97 year truck is a candidate for the failure. They just wimped out with a poorly done recall. They tried to limit the exposure too much with that recall.

You will have to do battle accordingly.

Tell me how things progress with it. I have learned my way around this problem a bit myself. I have 97 that has failed in the same manner.

A friend of mine just had his 2001 4.2 replaced by Ford at 8,000 miles due to excessive crankshaft endplay. His motor was ticking (I know-doesnt correspond with lower end problems) but Ford checked the endplay and said it was out of spec so they replaced the entire motor.
