engine swap outs

Has anyone in here successfully swapped a 4.6L into a truck with a 4.2l? I have a 5 sp manual transmission and would like to try this.. but want some advice on whether it is feasible.. and what is entailed in the swap... I love my truck.. but want a V8...

shouldnt be hard at all since ford sells them this way.

i would recommend putting a 302 or 351 in, though. parts are cheaper and there is a very well developed aftermarket. you could easily put togther a stock 302 for $1000 or so if you know what you're doing. or a 450 hp screamer for $5-6k. wouldn't be legal for smog purposes, but you could probably find someone who will give you an inspection... here in austin at least most of the inspection people are so dumb they probably wouldnt notice that your engine wasnt original.

eventually (in like 15 years hopefully) i'm hoping to go with a 351w with all the goodies, when my v6 has finally had it. the main thing i'm concerned about is finding a manual transmission to hook up to it. i dont like autos. i'd like to get a tremec 3550 or TKO since theres no way this mazda tranny will handle 400+ ft.lbs. The car gearing in those transmissions will require going to 4.10 or higher gearing to compensate for the truck tires, though. those transmissions will require some modifications most likely to mounts and shifter, etc... i'm not really sure about the details but i'm sure there would be some work involved.

as far as motor mounts for a SBF, i'm not sure if they will work with the v6 mounts, but since the v6 supposedly is a SBF missing 2 cylinders, they may work. the bellhousing pattern on the M50D also hopefully is compatable, but again i'm not sure. the motors will definately fit physically in the engine bay, so it should be possible to make something work.

if anyone knows anything about what engines will bolt up/etc... please let us know!

are you talking about putting in a non fuel injection 302/351, or use and engine out of an older model truck with fuel injection?

Actually I was thinking about a 4.6l V8.. from a 97 or newer truck... but at this point I am willing to listen to anyone that has accomplished a successful engine swap/upgrade...

HI!... CRAZEDF1 : That's actually not my engine. I designed that one for a buddy that's going to install it into a "85" GRAND MARQUIS of all things!LOL! With the 2 barrel it should be good for mid to high 12's.

500H.P from a 302? That's nothing, not very hard to do if you know what your doing. I've got a 625H.P 351-w in my PRO STREET RANGER and am currently building a 351-w/408 stroker that should be breaking the 700H.P barrier in N/A trim. That and then a 250 BIG SHOT on top of the 700H.P!!!!!!!!!!
