Question Synthetic Blend Percentages

New Ford owner here....traded in a beautifully well made Nissan to finally get a "real truck" Right now I have only 60 miles on my 4.2L XLT Supercab, and I am wondering about oil. Pure synthetic at 6 qts per oil change can be expensive.

What is a synthetic blend oil? 10 % synthetic, 20%? Is it really any more protective than mineral oil??

I used full Pennzane synthetic in my Nissan, and never had a problem, but only had to use 3.75 qts per change....what is the expert advice out there??

Thanks....

that is a damn good question for which i have never seen an answer. i refuse to buy the stuff because of the lack of disclosure of that information. it could be 1% synthetic and still be a blend. i'm not paying extra for a blend under those circumstances. so i'll either go dino or full synthetic. does anyone know what the blend percentage is? i imagine it also varies by brand.

Wow cool. How do you like the power of the V6. Does it feel like there is not enough?

If I were a synthetic man I would use a good full-syn like Mobil 1 or Amsoil. I have heard the blends are barely better than dino oil. I have always used dino oil and have never had a problem.

mix your own?

Synthetics claim to be 100% compatible with regular oil. Why couldn't a guy mix 3 qts Syn with 3 qts Dino, or 2 qts Syn with 4 qts Dino? I don't think it would be a good idea to use different weight oils though. Just wondering.

I didn't say you couldn't. I would just go all out synthetic.

Thumbs up reply ExplorerXLT

Going from a Nissan to a Ford, well the V6 has plenty of power for me....

I love my awesome F150 but I am a little taken aback by all the negative info here about the Ford engines....I hope to drive my truck for ten years...

The oil issue is confusing. I think the 5w-20 may be too thin for the intense south texas heat, that is why I am asking about synthetic blends....I have not seen any full synthetics in 5w-20...is there any on the horizon....?
