4.2L redline

Has anyone noticed that if you hit your rev limiter when your lights are on they dim like the alternator just cut out. Is this normal?

found out today

Ok guys, I ran into my rev limiter on a couple of occasions today and the verdict is: 5500rpm on the tach.It just barely touches it and then its like you hit a brick wall or something. I can't say that I noticed the lights dimming but I was staring at the tach.Good luck with the install

thanks for the info you, and everybody else. i talked to mike today (i should say i posted to mike. ) And this is what he said:

First, you need to decide what you want that needle to actually indicate, meaning: do you want it to be set to indicate where you should upshift for best acceleration at full-throttle when you're getting on it, or, do you want it to indicate the actual redline of your engine, the highest rpm that engine can safely turn under an emergency? For your quickest acceleration using the stock factory intake, set it at about 4800 rpm. Once you have an opened intake and exhaust, you'll find that you can use about another 200-500 rpm before upshifting, each vehicle varies a bit based onit's weight & gearing, evne with the same engine. For the actual *redline* of your engine, the nighest rpms that can be turned in an emergency, that can be as high as 5700 rpm, however, you don't want to exceed 5400 rpm on any kind of regular basis, so use that as your guide.

so there you go folks. take it for what it is.
