Back in the days when I had a 4.2, I got spanked by everything... so I'm having trouble believe you're pulling on Dodge Rams and Chevrolets. My truck (reg cab 4x2 with 3.55 axle) had some mods, and was still easily spanked.

I posted in another 4.2 v/s V8 post... And here is a true track meeting! My buddy has a 4.2 standard cab 4x2 with a few minor mods, and he picked a race@ or local track, with a 4x2 supercab with a 4.6 and got beat by 2.5 car lenghts. I am trying to get him to give me the ET slip so I can post it, but he is too embarrassed!!!

I see tons of V6 sport reg cab F-150's around Houston, but no one tries to race me?? Granted I am not trying to find races at every light, but I have never had anyone try to take off from me or anything.

I would love to race one of you stock V6 guys to see how fast the trucks are. I could care less who wins. It's funny when I see someone post that the 4.6L is no match for the 4.2. Are you smoking crack?

How can you say a 4.2 V6 manual vs. a 4.6 V8 auto is a fair match?

My truck feels slow off the line, but I would think it wuold be a very very close race with a V6 5speed.

You wanna know what fast is?

Hey guys you wanna know what fast is next time you get some free time go down to the Ford dealer and test drive a 4.0L Ranger Edge 4x4. I bought one about 2 month's ago and let me tell you!! JESUES on dry pavment with a anti slip diff I swear it smokes the tires I think becuase my truck is really light, but damn I couln't belive the power it's CRAZY!! I almost killed myself when I drove it off the lot.

So, are you saying that the 4.6 auto is a much faster truck than the 4.2 manual, or that the comparison should be 4.6 manual to 4.2 manual? I think in the manual to manual comparison, there's no question that the 4.6 should be faster. In the case of the 4.6 automatic vs. 4.2 manual, there is a lot of power lost to that slush box you call a tranny... If anybody in AZ has the 4.6 auto, I'm willing to give it a go for science.

I've seen these threads over and over as the years go by..

manual modded V6's beat a stock 4.6 and some 5.4's (depending on the driver) stock V6's are dogs... trust me I have one..
But for some reason, these 4.2's take the mods very very well..

I've also beaten the 4.6.. (after the chip & exhaust)

I am saying that it is not a fair match up snice the tranny's are not equal. Thats all.

And yes to everyone else, I know you can beat up on a STOCK 4.6 auto with your V6 manual and MODS!

I say lets try stock to stock 4.6 auto vs. 4.2 manual. I still say the auto will win a 1/4 mile race. Do you disagree?

The rangers are quick only for one reason. 3500lbs and ALL Edges have 3.73 gears. ALL OF THEM. so if you have the 4.0 5-speed EDGE you have the 3.73 gears. you will run a mid 15 STOCK. The gears really help you along with the weight. the 3.0's should run a mid 16 STOCK.

In case your wondering. I just barely beat a 5-speed 4.0 reg cab EDGE. just by about 1/2 lenght. he had intake and muffler too.

I love the f150 but those ranger edge's are ****ing quick.
