Oil pan leak. help needed please

I have a nasty leak at the front of my oil pan. Is this a one piece gasket all the way around the pan or is there a seperate seal at the front near the crank?

I'm thinking I might be able to replace a seperate seal without too much trouble. If it's a one piece, I'm not sure what to do. Can the pan come off or be lowered enough to replace the gasket without pulling or partially pulling the engine?

Any ideas or help is GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks
David

Unhappy sorry...bad news

I am going to have my pan replaced because the oil change place stripped out the threads and retapped it and now they are saying there is only like 3 threads holding the plug in place. He is offering to pay for 1/2 the cost which I thought was not to bad, but it is going to run about $450+ total. Several dealerships that I have called have said it is about an 8 hour job. They have to undo the motor mounts and lift the motor up. As far as the gasket, they have told me it is just a rtv they use. Hope this don't depress you to much. Good luck.

The pan only costs $73, rtv-$5, let's just say with some cleaners a new oil filter and oil it runs you about $100. It really isn't the bad of a thing on these trucks. Loosen the fan shroud, the two motor mounts at the k-member, the two bolts that hold the pan to the tranny. You have about 4-5 inches to raise it up and after that it's cake. If I can change the pan gasket on a 8 Qt. moroso winged deep sump pan on my 87 mustang then anyone can do this. Even with renting a engine hoist for a few hours(you could borrow one) this comes out cheaper than the dealer... It's even easier if you are just replacing the RTV.

Question So it's just RTV?

In that case I should be able to loosen the pan and drop it half an inch and fix it myself.

I guess I'll call a dealer to verify that it's only RTV. The local autoparts place had a Felpro gasket listed, but they've been wrong before. Anyone who could absolutely verify this, please do.

Thanks

There is a gasket listed but the most common way to repair a leaky one is to replace it with red RTV. The fact that we do not have a stamped steel pan makes this logical because the rails on our pan are nice, flat, thick, and more true than steel pans.
