Slipping Oil Filter Cap Wrench Fix
I tried posting this in the "HOW-TO" section but I wasn't granted permission. So, it involves the oil filter on my 4.2 V6, making me post it here.
My 4.2 V6 uses the Motorcraft oil filter part # FL-400S, or M1-M209 (currently on my engine). When using an oil filter cap wrench to remove the filter it usually slips. So, I added velcro strips to the inside of the cap wrench. It now holds onto the filter like a gorilla holding onto a banana if you were to try and steal it from him!

Those cap style oil filter removers are made for filters with a specific number of "flutes". As often is the case, different filters from different manufacturers, have a different number of "flutes". Then you are trying to use a specific fit tool, on something that doesn't fit exactly, and it slips.
My brother-in-law likes the Sears model with the 3 legs that clamp on and tighten as you turn.
I favor the ChannelLock pliers. For whatever reason, the inexpensive ones that look the same, just aren't made the same. The ChannelLock teeth grab and grip, when the cheap ones slip and slide.
