4.2 having problems running right, HELP
I have a 98 f150 with the 4.2 5 speed and I need help figuring out what my problem is. When I'm driving sometime the truck will just stop running (kinda) when you hit the gas nothing will happen and sometimes it will shut off completely. It will do this when you are idling or going down the road. I originally thought it was a bad fuel pump then after I changed it it's still happening. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Can you scan it and see what codes there are and post them for us? Please.
Even if there is no check engine light on, there could be pending codes. |

The only other thing that I can think it might be is the crank position sensor. My other truck had this same issue, and it took forever to throw the crank position sensor code. It was quite embarrassing to say the least at traffic lights. I replaced it and the truck never did it again.

P1000 simply means not all monitored sensors have achieved readiness. You must have disconnected your battery recently.

Out of curiosity, how old is your battery?

You can check this by looking at the battery. Usually there is notches taken out of the date label indicator.

I wish members would follow up when they fix the problems they come here to ask help for. SMH!
Start with the basics. All the internal combustion engine is is an air pump. In order for the engine to run it requires 3 items; air, fuel, and fire. Air; check your filter, TB (is it clean or gunked up), MAF sensor. Fuel; fuel filter, injectors, pressure regulator. Fire; is the coil cracked, are the wires good, plugs, battery. ALWAYS start with the basics. It will be cheaper to have an ASE mechanic diagnose it then to just throw parts at it. When it comes to batteries, I will ONLY buy 1 of these 3 listed; MOTORCRAFT, INTERSTATE, NAPA. Remember, you get what you pay for! |
