Are Ecoboost Engines All the Same?

I just traded in my F150 for a 2018 Explorer Sport.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the 3.5 ecoboost in the 2018 F150 and the 3.5 ecoboost in my 2018 Explorer?

As far as I can see, the F150 ecoboost has 10 more HP and a lot more torque.
Are they exactly the same engines only tuned different?

Is there a way I can bring the power numbers up on my explorer ecoboost to match the F150?

Also why are the power numbers different?

Thanks & Regards

If I recall, even the 3.5 Eco's going back to 2011 had different power ratings for the F150's and the Explorers.

Power to weight ratio would be one thing I can come up with.. I'll bet an F150 weighs more than and Explorer..

Check out tuners if that's what you want to do.. They make 'em for the F150's, so pretty sure they make 'em for the Exploders too? :)

All I know is I really like my 13 Eco in the F150 and it's all stock as far as engine/tune goes.. :)

Puts a smile on my face every time I get on it or am towing...

It's pretty much the tuning of the engine.

They did this a lot with the old 2.5 & 3.0 Duratec that they threw into many cars and SUVs.

They are completely different motors. The truck block, heads, turbos, rotating assembly, exhaust manifolds and VVT system are all different. The truck motor is derived from the car motor but was significantly beefed up for truck duty. Now, the motor in the GT is based on the car platform so there is a lot of potential there. They skipped the truck motor for the GT because it was too much work to adjust the variable cam timing system. Instead they used the much less complicated car system since the race motor is running wide open most of the time.

Let us know if you found a tuner that will massage that engine.

Inquiring minds want to know!
